I make my payments to Bank of America.  Does that mean I’m not eligible for HARP?

Even if you make payments to a major bank like Bank of America, more often than not, Bank of America is just your Mortgage Servicer. This means that Bank of America simply collects your monthly payments and this doesn’t mean that Bank of America owns your loan. In fact, Bank of America backs very few of its loans.  For most loans for which payments are sent to Bank of America, Fannie Mae or Freddie Mac are the actual loan-backers. Check your Eligibility to make sure Bank of America doesn’t hold your loan.
