ALOHA and welcome to the Hawaii HARP Loan program. If you’re visiting us, it probably means you’re underwater on your home or know someone who is underwater. As of March 2012, we’re in 2nd version of the HARP 2.0 program which allows homeowners to refinance with an unlimited LTV. This means you could be underwater, for instance, 300%, and still refinance to today’s historic low interest rates.
The HARP program only applies to homeowners who have a loan that is owned by Fannie Mae or Freddie Mac and your HARP loan must have been purchased by Fannie Mae or Freddie Mac on or before May 31, 2009. If you don’t have a loan that is owned by Fannie or Freddie, you may qualify for a FHA streamline refinance or a VA refinance, granted you have one of those two types of loans.
The HARP 2 refinance program is scheduled to be in effect until the end of 2013.
